Nifty Stock Index

The Nifty is India's premier stock index. It is provided by the National Stock Exchange in India, and includes the fifty largest (in terms of liquidity and capitalization) companies that are traded on the National Stock Exchange. The Nifty is calculated in real time from 9:55 AM to 3:30 PM Indian Time, using the prices of the fifty individual stocks from the National Stock Exchange.


Performance

Over the past ten years, the Nifty stock index has reached a low of 854.20 (September 2001) and a high of 6274.30 (January 2008).

The Nifty stock index has an average daily turnover of INR10
billion (approximately €144 million), and the Nifty futures market has an average daily volume of 3 million contracts.


Derivatives

The Nifty futures and options markets are the main Nifty stock index derivatives, and these are traded on the NEAT electronic exchange from 9:55 AM to 3:30 PM Indian Time. The Nifty futures market is the most actively traded Nifty stock index derivative, and is one of the preferred markets of Indian and Asian professional traders.
