DAX Stock Index

The DAX is Europe's premier stock index. The DAX is provided by Deutsche Börse in Germany, and includes the thirty largest (in terms of liquidity and capitalisation) German companies. The DAX is calculated in real time from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM Central European Time, using the prices of the thirty individual stocks from the Xetra electronic trading system in Frankfurt.

Performance

Over the past ten years, the DAX stock index has reached a low of 2396 (March 31st 2003) and an all time high of 8068 (December 28th 2007).

                              DAX Monthly Chart

The DAX stock index (DAX) has an average daily turnover of
5 billion, and the DAX futures market (FDAX) has an average daily volume of 1 million contracts.

Derivatives

The DAX futures (FDAX) and DAX options (ODAX) markets are the main DAX derivatives, and these are traded on the Eurex electronic exchange from 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM Central European Time. There are also several stock indicies that are subsets of the DAX stock index, such as the Midcap DAX (MDAX), and the technology DAX (TecDAX). The DAX futures market is the most actively traded DAX derivative, and is the preferred market of European professional traders.
